Inter-School Competitions

Each year, JSS AHER organizes inter-school athletic meets, offering local schools in Mysore and Ooty a platform to compete in various sports such as track and field events, football, and basketball. These competitions take place at the university's sports grounds, promoting physical fitness, youth development, and community participation.

A. Chief Minister’s Trophy Games 2024

The event was held from 10th to 24th September 2024 across multiple venues. Over 500 students participated actively. Key achievements include:

  • First Place: Basketball (Boys & Girls), Silambam, Table Tennis, and Cricket.
  • Second Place: Chess and Shuttle Badminton.
  • Third Place: Kabaddi and Shuttle Badminton.
  • Prize: ₹1,75,000 and selection for the Nilgiris District Level Competition.

B. JSS Inter-Institutional Sports Meet 2024

Held from 16th to 19th December 2023, the event saw participation from over 3,350 students. JSS College of Pharmacy, Ooty athletes achieved remarkable performances:

  • First Place: 100m, 400m, 800m, and 4x100m relay.
  • Overall Athletics Champion and Best Athlete award.

The event, themed “Yoga for the Society,” was celebrated with large-scale participation. Students and faculty from JSS Medical College joined thousands at Palace Ground, Mysore.

Race for 7: Marathon to Spread Awareness on Rare Diseases

This marathon symbolizes the 7,000 rare diseases with 7,000 participants running 7 kilometers. Hosted in Mysore, it engaged local communities and medical experts to raise awareness about rare diseases.

Events such as the World No Tobacco Day walkathon educate the public on the dangers of tobacco use. Another rally focused on antibiotic resistance and hygiene practices.

The Walkathon for Antibiotic Resistance, Health & Hygiene is a community event aimed at raising awareness about the growing threat of antibiotic resistance and the importance of maintaining good health and hygiene practices. Participants walk together to highlight the critical need for responsible antibiotic use and the dangers of misuse and overuse. The event promotes education on hygiene practices that can prevent infections and reduce the need for antibiotics. By coming together, the community underscores the importance of collective action in combating antibiotic resistance, protecting public health, and ensuring the effectiveness of antibiotics for future generations.

  • Participants: About 300 participants took part in the Walkathon to raise awareness on ‘Antibiotic resistance, health & hygiene.’
  • Occasion: Commemorating the 108th Jayanthi celebration of His Holiness Jagadguru Dr. Sri Rajendra Mahaswamiji and International Microorganism Day.
  • Inauguration: Inaugurated and flagged off by Chief Guest Smt. Seema Latkar, Superintendent of Police, Mysuru District at 6:30 AM.

Highlights

Speaking on the occasion, Smt. Seema Latkar urged the audience to spread awareness on the judicious use of antibiotics and expressed that the current society lacks tolerance and resilience towards self-healing and organic remedies. She applauded the institution for taking up an important global concern which requires urgent attention and increased awareness.

The event began with a warm-up session by Arnold Fitness team followed by the Chief Guest's address. The walkathon started at Kote Anjaneya Swamy Temple, passed through the Exhibition ground and Sri Shivarathri Rajendra Mahaswamiji circle, and culminated at the starting point. Participants carried placards with slogans related to the theme.

The event was conceptualized and organized by Dr. Ashwini P and Dr. Ann Catherine Archer from the Department of Microbiology, JSS AHER, Mysuru.

Walkathon on the Occasion of World Cancer Day

Bharath Hospital & Institute of Oncology, Mysuru, in association with the NSS Unit of JSS College of Pharmacy, organized a walkathon on the occasion of World Cancer Day at Kote Anjaneya Swamy Temple on 4th February 2024.

The main aim of this walkathon was to create awareness about the ill effects of tobacco use within the community under the initiative HOPE-E THON. This awareness program was attended by 40 NSS Volunteers, teaching staff, and the NSS Program Officer.

  • The university's policy allows local schools, sports coaches, and the general public to use the sports facilities during weekends and non-peak hours.
  • A structured schedule for facility access is in place to ensure compatibility with the academic calendar and university events.
  • Tennis Court Access: Outsourced to a professional coaching academy, with scheduled training sessions for community children from 5 PM to 8 PM on weekdays.
  • Indoor Sports Complex: Open to public members during weekends for badminton, basketball, and table tennis.
  • Athletic Track: Available for community running groups every morning from 6 AM to 8 AM.

Usage Data

The sports facilities at JSS AHER have been utilized extensively over the past year:

  • Local Schools: 5 schools from the Mysore region have used the sports grounds for athletic events and practice sessions. Approximately 500+ students participated in these events.
  • General Public: The gym and fitness facilities have been accessible to the public on weekends. The outdoor grounds are used by local community members for recreational activities like walking, running, and sports.
  • Sports Coaching Professionals: Local sports coaches and academies have made use of JSS AHER’s sports facilities for training programs. Around 3 local sports academies have conducted their training sessions at JSS AHER, involving over 500 athletes in disciplines like tennis, athletics, and basketball.

Zenith Sports Meet (14th–15th October 2023)

The Zenith Sports Meet is a State sports event organized by JSS College of Pharmacy, Mysore, to celebrate its 50th-year Jubilee. The event was hosted from 14th October 2023 to 15th October 2023 at the JSS Medical College ground and included volleyball and football competitions.

The event was inaugurated by Mr. Srikanth Rao, Chairman of the Technical Committee of the Karnataka Roller Skating Association, and presided over by Dr. T M Pramod Kumar. Event coordinators included Dr. Suresh, Administrative Officer Mrs. Divyashree, Sports Coordinator Dr. Yogesh, and Dr. Siddarth.

Volleyball Competition

  • Total of 12 teams participated, coordinated by Dr. Rakshith and student coordinator Mr. Ragavendra.
  • The competition consisted of 12 matches, including pool matches, semi-finals, and finals.
  • Winners: JSS College Ooty Road showcased exceptional skill and determination, winning the cash prize of ₹15,000.
  • The competition emphasized sportsmanship, with participants adhering to high standards of fair play.

  • Champion: Team JSSCPM emerged victorious, demonstrating remarkable skills and teamwork, winning the cash prize of ₹15,000.
